Distance Education in India
The Distance Education Learning has grown up in the last few Years in India . Initially some colleges and institutes only offered a correspondence course for degree. Some universities and colleges also started offering correspondence courses. But later on they started offering several short-term and long-term diploma courses according to the needs of learners. As a result, Distance Education Learning has the best options for those work executive who wants to continue their studies as well. Today, The Government is also considering open learning and Distance learning education as an important source of higher education.

The emergence of information technology and wireless communications has changed the way Distance education is delivered now a day. Ever increasing technology advancement is making its way into the world of Distance education .With the help of Information Technology, multimedia, video conferencing and online education, the acceptability of Distance learning education has been increasing day by day.
CHALLENGES
The Distance Education Council (DEC) is the apex body which promotes, coordinates and maintain the standards of distance school education and distance university education in our country. There are 13 state open universities apart from IGNOU. There are also over 140 institutions but the worrying factor is that most of the institutes consider distance learning programs just as a good source of revenue. As a result of this often there is no student support system, no project, no assignments for the students of distance study or distance programs . Some of the distance university education institutes are operating without ever a single full time faculty.
NEW MEASURES
It is necessary to encourage the activities of a Conventional educational learning in open learning as well. One can’t teach each and every subject. Quality should not be compromised, that is why accreditation is essential in a flexible education system. Due to this Distance Education Council has introduced the recognition of Distance Education university. . Recognition is awarded to an institution on the basis of several qualities.
Information technology can play an important role in improving the quality of teaching. We can put the Course content and also train our faculties to take classes in an e- learning environment. This is called blended learning and students found it to be very helpful.
